Sample Monthly Circle Ceremony

Sample Circle Meeting Agenda

1. Business Meeting for Dads. Dads discuss/complete Circle business and
upcoming events. Daughters have their own meeting (practice the skit,
practice the chant, construct a Circle drum/pipe/banner/chest, etc) during
the Dads' meeting.
2. Opening Ceremony. The drum is beaten to call the daughters to the
meeting.
3. Navigator: "Drummer, please beat the drum once for each daughter
present." Hosting daughter beats the drum once per attending daughter (Princess). If there is more than 1 hosting daughter, each hosting daughter beats the drum.
4. Dads and Daughters jointly recite purpose, aims, motto and pledge.
5. Navigator: "Drummer, please beat the drum 5 times." Drummer beats the
drum 5 times.
6. Navigator: "Legend Keeper, please call the roll." Legend Keeper calls
the roll by each member's nickname, noting new nicknames.
7. Navigator: "The Princesses will now tell how they earned their dues,
and deposit the monthly dues into the Money Can." [Circle sets the dues, perhaps $1. The money is used to buy award beads, other Circle property, firewood for the Hay Ride, etc] ... Starting with the Hosting Princess(s), Princesses explain how they earned their dues and deposit the monthly dues into the Money Can [example: "I, Princess Rainbow, earned my dues by taking out the trash."]. Only the Daughter holding the "Money Can" speaks. When the Daughter is done speaking of these tales, the rest of the Circle may add their positive cheers or comments, such as "Hooray". The Money Can is passed to the next Daughter. The tales include: received good grades, diligently performed responsibilities, behaved nicely to siblings, cleaned her room, fed the dog/cat, took dog for a walk, etc.
8. Navigator: "It is time to commend each other for good deeds." The
"Talking Stick" is passed to the first speaker (the host daughter). Only the
person holding the "Talking Stick" speaks. Using nicknames, dads commend their daughters for good deeds, and daughters commend their dads: "I, White Cloud, commend my Daughter, Princess Rainbow, for receiving good grades and for speaking in front of a large group of people".
"I, Princess Rainbow, commend my Dad, White Cloud, for being the best daddy in the world". When the individual is finished speaking, he/she passes the "Talking Stick" to the next speaker.
9. Navigator makes announcements, if needed.
10. Navigator: "The floor is now open for field reports." Each child is
encouraged to report on a parent/child project, outing, trip or other
activity or accomplishment since the last Circle meeting. A cheer
may be added after each report.
11. Navigator: "The floor is open to anyone who wants to attempt to recite
the Aims, or nicknames from memory." Successful recitation is awarded
spontaneously with Circle award.
12. The Talking Stick is returned to the Circle Chest.
13. Navigator: "Compass-Bearer, please present the awards." Compass
Bearer presents Award Beads to Dads and Daughters.
14. Navigator: "Drummer, please beat the drum 5 times to start the craft
phase." Drummer beats the drum 5 times. Host & hostess initiates the Craft
Project
.
15. Host & hostess offer the refreshments.
16. Navigator: "Drummer, please beat the drum 10 times to start the
Closing Ritual." Drummer beats the drum 10 times, and all take part in the
Closing Ritual.
